The accelerated development of information and communication technologies (ICT) has a significant impact on the paradigm shift in many spheres of life. The new challenge before us is the issue of virtual reality and the metaverse. The metaverse is a vague and complex term for understanding, but it will certainly become more and more a part of our everyday life. Qatar Airways took a bold step forward by presenting Virtual Cabin Crew – QVerse.
The experience is more detailed than just a cabin showcase. Qatar Airways has entered the metaverse with the introduction of QVerse, a unique virtual reality (VR) experience for website users. Users of the website can now use their own Personal Electronic Devices to virtually tour and navigate the Premium Check-in area at Hamad International Airport (HIA), as well as the cabin interiors of the airline’s aircraft, including the award-winning Business Class – Qsuite and the Economy Class cabin (PEDs).
QVerse - MetaHuman cabin crew
The inclusion of Qatar Airways’ very own virtual ‘MetaHuman’ cabin staff distinguishes the QVerse from other virtual settings. This online attendant, whose name Sama means sky’in Arabic, takes passengers from the check-in area to the plane and shows them around the luxury interiors.
“Our status as the first airline to introduce a MetaHuman cabin crew is a testament to our unwavering desire to innovate and delight our customers. We are constantly looking forward to adopting and introducing novel technologies that enhance our passengers’ complete journey.“, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said.
Qatar Airways has recognized the current and tectonic changes that await us very soon in everyday life we know. Wanting to meet all its customers and stay on top, the company decided to take this step.
Al Baker continued: “With physical boundaries beginning to be challenged by the metaverse on an increasingly larger scale, it is exciting to embrace a technology that enables all travel enthusiasts to enjoy a uniquely immersive experience of our award-winning products and services.”
The competition will be huge
Qatar Airways is far from alone in recognizing Epic Games’ (the world’s most advanced real-time 3D creation tool) MetaHuman Creator initiative as a marketing opportunity. Epic Games has raised $2 billion to expand on what it has previously accomplished and develop new capabilities for users such as airlines. Qatar Airways will be far from alone in the virtual sky, thanks to plenty of direct partners and possible third-party companies collaborating with one or more of the company’s products.
